Graduate School Forming to Develop Degree Programs in Humaneering Technology (November 3, 2009) - The Institute Board announced formation of the Humaneering Institute Graduate School, with a plan for launching classes as early as 2013. The board also announced that Dr. James S. (Jim) Pepitone, retired management consultant and creator of the prototype for today's humaneering technology, will lead this initiative.
This decision follows the Board's recent conclusion that humaneering practice at its most challenging level will require professional education and licensure so as to assure competent and ethical practice. Initial plans call for Graduate School faculty to support the Tiffin Center's development research, field trials, practitioner training, and commercialization initiatives, and to use the Tiffin Center for supervised internships.
When its initial development is complete, humaneering technology will be published at four levels of knowledge: Scholar, Professional, Management and Common (or public). Each level will be released as a separate version, with the Professional release (V4) scheduled for 2013, Management release (V5) scheduled for 2016, and the Common (V6) and Scholar (V7) releases both scheduled for 2020.
The Professional version (V4) will be taught by the Humaneering Institute Graduate School. This knowledge will prepare people to professionally design, implement, diagnose, and maintain humaneering-based work systems. The Management version (V5) will be tailored specifically to meet the needs of managers, including application-specific how-to advice and decision support for dealing with challenges. The Common version (V6) will be designed to enable all people within the average range of intelligence to work more effectively and more easily achieve their potential for creating economic value. The Scholar version (V7), the most formal and detailed, will be prepared for use by research and teaching scholars.
Initially, the Institute's Graduate School will focus on developing two masters-level and two doctoral-level programs, in part to serve as models for the subsequent accreditation of university-based programs. The design of curricula and materials for undergraduate courses and K-12 lessons with follow.
This Humaneering Institute Graduate School will co-locate with the Institute's Tiffin Center for Humaneering Technology Research, Transfer and Commercialization, so as to integrate the people and programs for technology development with the preparation of new humaneering professionals. This arrangement will accelerate the development of qualified humaneering professionals, which for any new technology is an obvious constraint.
