Certification, Licensing & Accreditation
The Humaneering Institute is a global self-regulatory organization (SRO) with official regulatory authority over the content, application, and practice of humaneering technology. This responsibility includes the education, qualification, and conduct of professional humaneers.
Similar to physical-science based engineering technology, human-science based humaneering technology promises many positive results for its users and for the people impacted by its use. Alternatively, the misunderstanding, misrepresentation, or misuse of humaneering technology can be damaging. To assure the quality and authenticity of humaneering technology and its effective and ethical use, the Institute has developed a rigorous program for the accreditation of education and training programs, licensing of individuals who want to practice humaneering professionally, and the certification of products and services that designed and produced consistent with the principles and methods of humaneering technology.
Institute accreditation of education and training programs will assure instruction providers and their students that humaneering technology programs meet the Institute's rigorous standards for curriculum design, course content, and instruction quality. Accreditation will be available to qualifying state and private colleges and universities, technology training vendors, and internal training and development departments.
Institute licensing of individuals will indicate a person's level of humaneering education, in addition to assuring adherence to professional standards of practice. Humaneering professionals will be licensed at three practice levels: (1) Licensed Professional Humaneer (LPH), a person with a doctorate degree in humaneering or related discipline plus demonstrated competence in designing, implementing, and diagnosing humaneered work systems; (2) Licensed Humaneering Specialist (LHS), a person with a masters degree in humaneering or related discipline plus demonstrated competence in managing, developing, and improving humaneered work systems; and (3) Licensed Humaneering Associate (LHA), a person with a bachelors degree in a human science or related discipline plus demonstrated competence in operating, supporting, and maintaining humaneered work systems. Each licensing level requires a corresponding level of examination, supervised practice experience, and maintenance of up-to-date knowledge and practices. Provisions will be available for "candidates" at all levels to practice humaneering with supervision while completing the requirements for licensure.
Institute certification of products and services will assure suppliers and their clients of the effective application of humaneering technology principles and methods. The certification process begins with an assessment of the product or service and identification of opportunities for increased alignment with humaneering principles and methods. Products and services will be "certified" by the Institute as conforming to humaneering technology, and only then can be promoted as Humaneering Institute Certified®.
